Urakasumi (浦霞)Sake

Urakasumi

An old Shiogama brewery with the honor of brewing the sacred sake for Shiogama Shrine. Its name is said to come from a line of classical poetry, and true to that ring, its creed is a refined, clear taste. A flagship of Miyagi known nationwide, yet endlessly proper. It carries the serene grace of a sake long offered before the gods.

Pairs with:Sasa-kamaboko (leaf-shaped fish cake) / Hoya (sea pineapple)

Hitakami (日高見)Sake

Hitakami

An Ishinomaki sake bearing the elegant old name "Hitakami-no-kuni," once used for the ancient northeast. So devoted to pairing with seafood that locals say, "if you're having fish, have Hitakami." Before Kinka mackerel or oysters, its sharpness shines all the brighter. It is packed with the spirit of a brewer who knows the port-town table inside out.

Pairs with:Kinka-saba (premium Kinka mackerel) / Kaki (oyster)

Ichinokura (一ノ蔵)Sake

Ichinokura

An Osaki label with an unusual origin — it was born when four breweries joined hands. Because each brought its own skill, its balance of flavor is widely praised. It protects tradition while boldly trying new things, like sparkling sake. Behind every cup, the wisdom of several breweries melts together.

Pairs with:Hatto-jiru (flat-dough soup) / Abura-fu (fried wheat gluten)

Hakurakusei (伯楽星)Sake

Hakurakusei

An Osaki powerhouse that bills itself as "the ultimate food sake," made to lift the dish to center stage. Its name comes from Bo Le, the legendary Chinese judge of horses who could spot a great steed at a glance. Its creed is to stay quietly in support, devoting itself to enhancing the meal. The more you drink, the more you crave the next bite.

Pairs with:Hoya-su (vinegared sea pineapple) / Kinka-saba (premium mackerel)

Suminoe (墨廼江)Sake

Suminoe

A connoisseur's bottle named after a river flowing through Ishinomaki. As the name sounds, its creed is a crisp, light, and elegant taste. A style that chooses poise over flash — one that impresses experts all the more. In an oyster-loving port town, you'll want to raise cup after quiet cup.

Pairs with:Kaki (oyster) / Hokki-meshi (surf clam rice)

Kenkonichi (乾坤一)Sake

Kenkonichi

A Murata sake with the boldest of names, "the one and only under heaven." Contrary to that name, its taste is somehow rustic and robust, an unadorned deliciousness. It stands right up to hearty dishes like Sendai's famous beef tongue. A sturdy bottle that more than lives up to its grand name.

Pairs with:Sendai gyutan (grilled beef tongue) / Zunda-mochi (sweet edamame rice cake)
